From my experience, prior to the pandemic, there was almost this stigma against mothers who stay home with to raise their children. My blog is called, “Just a Mom and Her Bon Bons” because it seemed as though people believed stay at home moms (SAHM) sat around all day or were lazy. When my children go to their grandparents for the day, I have people ask me if I got any rest. My mom always jokes and asks if I was sitting around with my feet propped up, eating my bon bons (she had twins and knows the struggle of managing a household with multiples).
I don’t rest when the kids aren’t here, I catch up on housework, on bills, cooking, grocery shopping, and balancing the checkbook (just to name a few).
I think the stigma of the lazy housewife/SAHM has been disproven since the start of virtual learning and temporary shutdown of society (or at least I hope so).
I worked hard as a nurse.
I worked hard as a nurse practitioner.
But as a mother, working 24/7, days/nights/weekends, no time off, no clocking out, and putting my heart and soul into it—I’ve never worked harder.
According to salary.com, in 2021 the median annual salary of a SAHM would be $184,820. Trust me when I say, that would not be easy money.
So, listed below are just a “few” job titles that should be included on our next resume.

I’m frequently asked where I’m working and what I’m doing. I get it. I worked hard for my degrees. I worked hard to get the title APRN (advanced practice registered nurse).
BUT, I prayed for the title I have now. I prayed for these children. I prayed for the ability to stay home and raise them. I prayed to be a mom.
I’m not offended by it anymore. Honestly, I proudly say that I’m a stay at home mom (SAHM) to my four, beautiful babies. I haven’t given up my career as a nurse practitioner, just put my career on hold at the moment.
There is a season for everything, and now is my season to be at home. One day that will change, so I’m soaking up this time and this season while it lasts.
